In MeChat, match appearances and names are pre-set and not customisable by the player. For that reason, you sometimes have a choice between two, or more matches to choose from. Counterparts share story, voice messages and dates. Their CGs are identical except the match itself. Their profile pictures and bios are always different. Most matches have different side characters.
Players can switch between the counterparts and matches, and still keep the progress. This is also free, no matter how many times you do it. If the character has multiple counterparts it chooses a random each time you click it.
So if you want a specific counterpart, you can use the general search on the swiping-screen, left upper corner and type in the name of the counterpart. Very few counterparts were actually deleted, so you may not be able to find them.
