The Basics[]
The key items you’ll need during gameplay are displayed and briefly explained on this page.
To help you get started, we’ll also guide you through common terms and phrases used on popular social platforms like Reddit, Discord, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X (Twitter), and YouTube. You’ll find general descriptions both here and in links shared below.
This first page focuses on the in-game tutorial you’ll experience when launching the game for the first time or after restoring it from the cloud.

Please note that MeChat is frequently updated by its developers, so some features may change or become outdated over time, while new ones are continuously added.
The most recent major update rolled out at the end of January 2025, bringing a refreshed user interface. In addition to the familiar feed where you can swipe through potential matches, a new feature called Discover was introduced. This allows you to find matches by exploring their assigned tropes and browsing through the selections featured in the Editor's choice.
Log In[]
When you first open the app after installing it, you'll be prompted to choose your favorite Story tropes. Next, you'll select who you're interested in—don't worry, you can update this later in your profile. After that, you'll enter your zodiac sign, though from what we can tell, this doesn't affect your matches or how they interact with you. Finally, you can either choose a premade avatar or create your own!
Avatars[]
Avatars represent the character you choose to play—or simply yourself. This character, often called the MC (Main Character), is never assigned a specific gender and will always be referred to using they/them pronouns, regardless of the body type you select.
Gems[]
Gems are the in-app currency in MeChat, used to unlock various premium features, including:
- Gem Choices (special chat options or date interactions)
- CGs (Character Graphics) – images sent by your match
- Voice Messages (Audios)
- Outfits
How to Get Gems
You can earn or purchase gems through several methods:
- Free Gems in the Shop – Collect 5 gems every 6 hours (or 10 gems for premium users).
- Watching Ads – Watch up to 3 ads every 60 minutes, earning 5 gems per ad.
- Daily Rewards – Earn increasing amounts of gems for logging in daily over a 7-day streak. After the streak resets, rewards start at 3 gems again (premium users receive double rewards).
- Love Meter Rewards – Earn gems by filling the Love Meter (explained below).
- Daily Tasks – Completing daily tasks grants additional gems. Available tasks vary randomly each day; see Daily rewards for details.
- Purchasing Gems – Buy gems with real money in the Store.
Love Meter[]
The Love Meter tracks your relationship progress with matches and increases through various interactions. Spending gems on Gem Choices, unlocking CGs and voice messages, and using Premium outfits all contribute to its growth. Additionally, both your reactions and your match’s reactions to chat lines will also boost the Love Meter.
This system acts as a reward mechanic—each time the Love Meter fills, players are rewarded with gems. Regular users receive gems equal to the Love Meter level, with the option to watch ads to double the gem rewards at levels 3, 4, 5, and 6. Premium players automatically receive double the amount. This gem increase continues up to level 15, after which it remains the same. The maximum Love Meter level is 25.

Gem Choices[]
Gem Choices (also known as Gem Options or Premium Options) offer special responses that can increase your Love Meter. These choices may also unlock exclusive scenes or dialogue that are otherwise unavailable.
Initially, Gem Choices are free. However, as interactions progress, the cost gradually increases until it reaches a fixed price, which remains consistent thereafter.

CGs (Computer/Character Graphic)[]
During conversations, matches may send CGs (Character Graphics) that require gems to unlock. Once purchased, these CGs are permanently stored in the match’s profile for you to view anytime and remain accessible across all counterparts.
Unlocking a CG also boosts your Love Meter, regardless of when you make the purchase. However, if you want to react to a CG, you’ll need to scroll back through your chat to find it.
Voice Messages (Audios)[]
Voice Messages (Audios) are similar to CGs; most matches will send voice messages that require gems to unlock. Once unlocked, they remain accessible across all counterparts. In many cases, counterparts share the same voice messages and are voiced by the same actors or actresses.
Exclusive and Seasonal Matches[]
Previously, seasonal matches were only available for purchase during their respective seasons. However, they have since been made permanently available as exclusive characters.
Exclusive characters can only be obtained through real-money purchases. However, you’ll still need gems for Gem Choices, CGs, voice messages, and outfits, if applicable. These characters have been on sale in the past during a Black Friday Special.
With the St. Valentine’s 2024 update, seasonal matches made a return. As a reward for completing six special episodes, players were matched with the Lustful Duo—a married couple eager to turn their twosome into a threesome.
Matches and Counterparts[]
In this game, character appearances and storylines are pre-set and cannot be customized. However, diversity is achieved through counterparts, allowing players to choose from different pre-set appearances for their match.
Players can switch between counterparts at any time and continue from where they left off without losing progress. The only exception to this rule is AIs.
Outfits[]
Premium outfits offer a unique way to customize your Main Character in MeChat. When preparing for a date, the game may prompt you to choose an outfit. These outfits vary based on the selected body type—Feminine or Masculine.
Purchasing an outfit provides a significant Love Meter boost and often triggers a special response from your match. On the other hand, choosing not to buy an outfit may result in no reaction or even a slightly negative response.
Please note, if a player ever resets a story, Premium outfits WILL be kept.
Dates[]
In addition to regular chats with your match, you’ll also go on dates. These take place between text conversations and bring you to different locations with your match.
During dates, you’ll encounter Gem Choices, which require gems to unlock special scenes and exclusive dialogue. You can replay dates anytime, and any choices you previously spent gems on will be available at half price—or free with Premium.
Unmatching[]
Players can unmatch a character if they no longer wish to continue their story. To do this, go to the character’s main profile and tap Unmatch, or simply swipe left on their chat thread and select Unmatch from the menu.
You’ll have the option to share feedback with the developers about why you’re unmatching, but this is entirely optional. If you re-match with a character you previously unmatched, you’ll pick up right where you left off, with no progress lost.
To Be Continued[]
If a match goes offline with a “to be continued” message, it means you’ve reached the end of their available content. When this happens, the character will appear greyed out in your contact list. Once MeChat releases a new update for them, they’ll message you again.
Some characters are marked as “completed”, meaning their story will no longer receive updates. However, in rare cases, completed matches have unexpectedly returned with new content.
Completed[]
Some Storylines are marked as "completed", though this can sometimes be due to an error or because the route gained so much attention that the developers decided to bring it back.
Resetting stories[]
Players who reach a “To be continued…” message or the end of a story can choose to reset the story. Resetting stories allows you to start over, but keep in mind that anything purchased with gems, except for any outfits, will need to be repurchased.
The reset button can be found in the chat window of the respective match you wish to reset, or by swiping left on their chat thread and selecting Unmatch, but this can only be seen once you've finished a route up to what has already been released.
If you reset a story, all your previous purchases, except the Premium outfits, will be lost.
Schedule[]
PlayMe provides an updated schedule almost every month, offering a preview of what to expect in the upcoming weeks. It’s a great resource for checking which characters have been recently updated or released, and who is next in line. You can also use this screen to match with characters who have already been released that you find interesting, saving you the time of scrolling through the feed and swiping until you find the right one.
New Matches[]
MeChat regularly introduces new matches to chat with, with updates happening every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
You can view all upcoming matches, whether they’re new or receiving updates, by checking the schedule. Simply tap the crown icon below to access it.
Secrets[]
Many older routes feature hidden achievements that can be unlocked by selecting certain options, sometimes hidden behind a gem choice. During the Spring Festival 2024, secrets were temporarily reintroduced, even for matches that never had secrets before.
Searches[]
In 2024, MeChat introduced two ways to search for matches in the app:
- Global Search: This option lets you find every match available on the app. You can access it from the swiping screen, where matches are offered to you. In the upper left corner, you'll see a magnifying glass icon. Tap on it, type in the name of the match or counterpart you're looking for, and a list will appear. Simply tap on the match you want.
- Match Search: This option is limited to the matches you've already made. On the chat list screen, you'll find another magnifying glass with a typing field next to it. Tap it to search within your own personal matches. You won’t be able to search for new matches or counterparts here—just the matches you've already connected with.
Favorites[]
In your chat list, instead of swiping left to unmatch a character, you can swipe right to Favorite them. Favoriting a match ensures they will always appear at the top of your list for the duration of the story. You can have up to 10 favorites at a time.
Events[]
The developers frequently offer events during holiday seasons or special celebrations. The game will often prompt you about these events when you open the app, update the app from the App Store, or you can stay updated through announcements on their social media pages.
